RULES & REGULATIONS

2010 Season

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ENTRIES

  1. NO ALCOHOL PERMITTED.  STATE LAW ALSO PROHIBITS THE CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES WHILE OPERATING A VEHICLE.  THEREFORE, NO DRIVER UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL OR DRUGS WILL BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE OR ENTER THE EXHIBITION AREA.  JUDGES MAY DIQUALIFY A DRIVER IF HE/SHE IS CONSIDERED UNFIT TO DRIVE.  LAW ENFORCEMENT WILL BE NOTIFIED OF VIOLATIONS.
  2. Orderly conduct is required of all drivers and pit persons.  If not, any driver and or people affiliated with that car will be evicted without any refunds or prize money.  Misconduct may result in being banned from present and/ or future participation.  Any driver or crewmember not complying with any one of the rules will be immediately disqualified.  Crewmembers are the responsibility of the driver.
  3. Entry fee is $45per vehicle.  Pre-entries must be in by 5 p.m. the week before the demo.  This admits 1 driver and car.  Mail entries to Joe Hibbert, 16502 Q Road, Cimarron, Kansas 67835.  Late entries will be $65.00 per car. 
  4. All cars must be in the pit prior to 6:00 p.m.
  5. All cars will be inspected and passed before allowing participation.
  6. No ambulances, hearses, trucks, vans, or convertibles will be entered.  No diesel motors.  No Imperials.  No Imperial Subs, Stubs or full frames under any other car.
  7. NO one allowed in pit area without a pit pass!
  8. All cars not removed the day after demo, become the property of the Outlaw Promotions.
  9. Entry fee refunds will be made only on cars that do not pass inspection. (NO SHOW NO REFUND.)
  10. Extra pit passes are sold at the entry gate for $20. Entrants and pit crews are expected to wear pit pass at all times.
  11. Sub-frames or uni-body are considered frames in all parts of these rules.

 

 

CAR PARTICIPATION

1.       All glass, plastic, fiberglass, chrome moldings, molding clips, and pot metal MUST be removed prior to arrival at facility.  No broken window in doors.  No flammable materials such as carpets, upholstery or headliners can be left in the car.  Cars MUST be clean and free of loose objects inside the entire vehicle.  Insulation blankets under the hood and in trunk MUST be removed.

2.       Drivers’ doors must be welded shut.  If door comes open driver will be disqualified from the heat. REINFORCEMENT MUST BE ADDED ON THE DRIVER’S DOOR, limited to 6” past edge of door, and MAY NOT protrude from car more than 2”.  This door can be welded solid.  DRIVER’S DOOR MUST BE PADDED ON THE INSIDE!  No grader blades. 

3.       Doors may be solid welded with flat strap no wider than 3” x ¼”.  TOP of doors may be folded. No wood, or extra reinforcing allowed in passenger doors. 

4.      Trunks may be solid welded with flat strap no wider than 3” x ¼”.  Trunk may have two 1” all thread and can be through the frame at a body bolt location. A maximum 6”x6”x1/4” washer on trunk bolts. Minimal pre-bending of body is allowed, no full rear end wedges before car is ran. Trunk may be tucked into rear tail light cross brace, bend may start 10″ back from end of trunk.  A pre-ran car may smash the trunk down for visibility reasons only.  Trunk lids may be “V”ed.

5.        Trunk lids MUST have a 6” inspection hole.  Station wagons must have rear deck plates in stock location with 6” Inspection hole.

6.       Hood can be chained down with a maximum of 3/8’ chain.  Chain may go around bumper and around frame. A maximum of six bolts or all thread maybe used on the hood.  Only two all threads can go to frame.  The bolts shall be no more than 1” maximum.  A maximum 6”X6” washer on hood bolts.  No #9 wire may be used on hood.  Hole must be cut in hood, large enough for fire extinguisher use. Hood may  be welded to the core support. Hood may not be attached to the bumper or the frame.

7.       Fuel tanks must be removed.  Fuel tanks must be in the rear seat compartment and

      fastened securely.  Fuel tank size is a maximum 8 gallons.   

      For driver safety, fuel tank must to be covered.  Fuel line must be connected with secure fittings. (Two clamps for every connector.)  Fuel line must be protected when passing though sheet metal.

      (Metal or plastic boat gas tanks work very well.)  No Alcohol.

8.       Batteries must be moved to front seat compartment and fastened securely. 

       Batteries must be covered for driver’s safety.  Two batteries maximum or one cat battery may be

       used.

9.       Air cleaners must be left in place.  All carburetors will have one.

10.       A box (cage) around the driver and batteries is required.  You are required to have at least a driver’s door bar a bar from door post to door post a dash bar and a bar from the dash bar to the door post bar on the passenger side.  You will be allowed to run an X- brace or two bars in each of the four positions.  You are allowed to run a vertical bar from the door to door bar of X-brace behind the seat straight up and connect to two together on top of the roof (roll bar).  The door to door bar or X-brace may not exceed back past back seat floor pan.  The only part of the cage allowed outside the car is the driver’s door and the bar across the roof.  The cage can be welded or bolted to body only DO NOT ATTACH TO THE FRAME.  No kickers from cage to frame.  MUST HAVE INSIDE DOOR BAR FROM DASH TO SEAT BAR, TO PROTECT THE BATTERIES.

11.    Radiator must be left in place and no other water supply may be used. You are allowed to run two straps 2” wide ¼” thick form core support to bumper.  No other reinforcing or added material to core support.

12.    Not required but for fire safety, recommend cleaning engine of old grease and

                 oil.   

13.    No shock welding. Car suspension must have movement in the front and

       back. Must have stock springs no wider than 3” with no helper springs.  No Leaf Conversions!

14.    For safety leave firewalls intact and heater core covered. Driver’s floor board must be in place. May cut for motor mod, but needs to have some cover!

15.    PAINT CAR NUMBER ON ROOF IN LARGE NUMBERS.  Roof signs are recommended. 

16.    PAINT DRIVERS NAME ON ROOF IN LARGE LETTERS.

17.    FOR SAFETY REASONS, NO OIL COOLERS ALLOWED ON ROOF.

18.    Wheel weights must be removed.  May have a modified rim, to allow for 16” tires, no more than ¼” material.

19.    Bumpers may be welded only on shock absorber NO ADDITIONAL IRON. Chain may go around bumper and around frame.  Maximum two wraps.  You can hard nose.   IF you don’t run a bumper the bumper shocks MUST be removed.  When cutting off bumpers please keep people’s safety in mind.

20.      Must have a 1/4 inch spacer from frame to body(can be metal or rubber). All frame holes must be open, may weld seam on frame 1 pass only. No metal, wood and or concrete allowed in frame. 1/4″  gap between frame/sub frame and body to allow for inspection. One ear must remain open on k frames. No Frame Lacing.  No Frame Pinning!  No Imperial sub-frames! May replace body bolts with 1″ bolts max(NO MORE THAN 4 EXTRA BOLTS MAY BE ADDED INCLUDING THE 2 ALLTHEADS).  NO UNDERCOATING ON FRAME.

21.      You may run transmission coolers.  They must be securely fastened.  No water engine cooled coolers.

22.      May chain rear differential to the floor.  (3/8 chain max.)

23.      Limited #9 wire may be used.  (Final decision with the Inspectors.)

24.      Must have at least three front window bars in front of the driver.

25.      Station Wagon side windows may have limited 9-wire (4 wraps) one place (or two wraps 2 places.)   Or may use one (1”) all thread per side in place of 9 wire.  May not use both.

26.      Must have a fire extinguisher in car. 

27.      Pre- ran derby cars will fall under the new cars rules plus these. These cars are harder to try and judge because we have to decide what is just fixing and what is adding strength.

 

Frames:

1- Broken or cracked frames may be re-welded where broken, but no farther than 2″ (length) farther than crack in frame on either side of crack.  Do not add filler material on weld and only one bead for cracks!!!  If frame has been notched and seem comes together then you may weld with NO filler.  IF METAL IS ADDED THEN IT WILL COUNT AS ONE OF YOUR PLATES.

2- If frame has been buckled and/or if there is a rise or divit in the frame and is starting to buckle, you may put a 6×4x1/4″ plate on buckle.

3- If you are going to fix frames with plates, you may only use 3 total plate on each frame rail, total of 6 per car.

Body:

1- Torn sheet metal in doors can be patched with sheet metal only, for safety reasons only. If trunk is ripped it can be beat back together and re-welded, just don’t add any sheet metal.

 

 

 

TRUCK PARTICIPATION

1.       Above Rules as well as the following.

2.      Any ½ or ¾ ton GVW regular cab, crew cab, or suburban.  No El Camino’s, Ranchero’s, vans, or ambulances.

3.      No 4X4 will be allowed.  If it is a 4X4, the front drive shaft must be removed.

4.      No flat beds, utility boxes, pipe bumpers, grill guards, or headache racks.

5.      Car welding applies, no wedging or rolling allowed, bed must be stock appearance. 

6.      Tail gates must be in place. 

7.      Beds maybe moved forward and welded to the back of the cab.  May add two extra bolts.  Car welding applies. 

8.      A complete roll cage around driver is allowed.  On suburban, roll cage may only go back to floor pan.

9.      Pick up’s must have mesh or bars in driver’s back window to protect them from possible debris.

10.    Suburban side windows may have limited 9-wire (4 wraps) one place (or two wraps 2 places.)   Or may use one (1”) all thread per side in place of 9 wire.  May not use both.

11.  Pick ups may have one ¼” chain in the middle of the bed to prevent bed from spreading.

12.  Pick ups gas tank must be moved to the top center behind the cab, using at least 2” material to attach to the frame.  Needs to have a cover over the tank.  Other vehicles gas tank needs to be moved behind the driver (6 gallon tank maximum.) 

13.  May replace front bumper with any factory car bumper. You may hard nose.

 

 

 

WEEKEND WARROIR PARTICIPATION

 

For those who want to play but don’t worry about the pay!

 

1.       All glass, plastic, fiberglass, chrome moldings, molding clips, and pot metal MUST be removed prior to arrival at facility.  No broken window in doors.  No flammable materials such as carpets, upholstery or headliners can be left in the car.  Cars MUST be clean and free of loose objects inside the entire vehicle.  Insulation blankets under the hood and in trunk MUST be removed.

2.       Drivers’ doors must be solid welded shut.  If door comes open driver will be disqualified from the heat. This door can be welded solid.  DRIVER’S DOOR MUST BE PADDED ON THE INSIDE! REINFORCEMENT MUST BE ADDED ON THE DRIVER’S DOOR, limited to 6” past edge of door, and MAY NOT protrude from car more than 2”.  This door can be welded solid. No grader blades. 

3.       Passenger doors may be chained (max of 3/8 in.) or welded with one, 1” strap 3” long.  No wood, or extra reinforcing allowed in passenger doors.

4.       Trunk lid may NOT be welded.  Must be able to be open for inspection and then may be chained with two chains no larger than 3/8”.

5.       Hood can be chained down with a maximum of 3/8” chain.  Chain may go around bumper and around frame. 

 

19.    Fuel tanks must be removed.  Fuel tanks must be in the rear seat compartment and

23.    May reinforce the drivers’ seat with chain.

31.      Must have at least three front window bars in front of the driver.

32.      May weld a 6” piece of chain on stock bumpers to keep from coming off.

33.      Must have a fire extinguisher in car. 

34.      If you decide to push these rules you will be advanced into the normal derby.

 

Claim Rule

  1. All cars in the hobo-derby are allowed to be claimed for $500.
  2. Cars can only be claimed by other drivers in the hobo-derby.
  3. All claims must be turned into the flagman immediately following the heat.
  4. If your car is claimed you must forfeit your car or risk losing your placing in the hit.  If someone does don’t forfeit their car they lose their winnings and everyone else moves up in placing. (If winner don’t forfeit car to claim, then the second place car gets the 1st place winnings and etc.)
  5. If your car is claimed you are allowed to remove the gas tank, batteries, headers, and drivers seat.  Everything else must stay. 

 

Mini Vans

  1. Same as weekend warrior rules.
  2. No full size vans
  3. No all wheel drives
  4. Must move fule tank to center of van behind the driver
  5. MUST REMOVE ALL INTERIOR and TOP RACKS
  6. NO CLAIM RULES ON THIS CLASS

 

  Figure 8 Rules

  1.  Same car preperation as demo classes.
  2. Doors and trunks lids must be welded shut or chained with a maximum 5/16″ chain.
  3. Hood must be chained with  a minimum 5/16″ chain.
  4. Gas tank can be in stock location. Gas tank can be in the rear seat compartment and fastened securely. Gas tank(if moved) is a maximum of 8 gallons. For drivers safety a metal tank is recommened or a metal box covering gas tank.
  5. Batteries maybe moved to the front seat compartment and fastened securely Or keep in stock location.
  6. Air cleaners must be left in place.
  7. Drivers door reinforcement may ne added.
  8. Driver’s compartment MUST have a roll bar added.
  9. No iron or reinforcement may protrude from car in a dangerous manner.
  10. Holes MUST be cut in the hood large enough for a fire extinguisher to be used.
  11. Radiator MUST be left in place. No other water supply of  may be used.
  12. ALL wheel and tire balancing weights MUST be removed.
  13. For safety reasons-clean engine of oil and grease.
  14. Mini class can be any small car with a wheel base of less than 108″(NO MODE FRAMES)
  15. Full size can be Weekend Warrior or Full weld class.

DRIVER RULES

  1. 1.      All drivers must have a valid drivers license and be at least 18 years of age. If not 18 years old, driver must have written permission and notarization from Parents or Guardians, Each driver and mechanic must sign a waiver releasing  Outlaw Promotions from liability.

2.       Helmets with face shields or helmets with goggles must be worn. (Safety glasses not considered as goggles or shield.) Long sleeved shirt or fire suit is required.  NO SHORTS!

3.       Seat belts must he worn.  Shoulder harnesses are recommended.

4.       Driver’s door hits and team driving will be decided by the judges.

5.       Any door or hood coming open during race, that car will be removed from that heat.

6.       Drivers must be present at drivers meeting held 30 min. before the show.  Roll will be called.

7.       Driver must make a hit at least every one minutes during race.

8.       When call goes out for cars to be in place, drivers shall be in place and ready or will be disqualified from that heat.

9.       Two wheels going over poles or boundary line car will be disqualified!

10.    Cars catching on fire 2 times in one heat will be disqualified from the heat.

11.    ALL CARS WILL STOP IMMEDIATELY WHEN FLAGGED. (FOR FIRES, ETC.)

12.    All rulings by the Official Judge will be final.

13.    Drivers must stay in car for safety reasons until the heat is over, except in case of fire.

14.    ALL CARS ARE SUBJECT TO REINSPECTION AT ANY TIME.

15.    Judges may disqualify a car if it is deemed unsafe.

16.    Drivers MUST accompany their car to the inspection.  NO EXCEPTIONS.

17.    Hood must be open for all inspections.

         18.  Roll overs will be put back over and allowed to continued ( IF officials feel safe) ONLY ONCE A HEAT.

 

Figure 8 Driver Rules

  1. All drivers must be 18years old,or sign waver. All persons entering the pit must sign a waiver releasing all liability.
  2. Helmets with face shields or goggles must be worn.  IF HELMET COMES OFF OR IS REMOVED DURING A RACE, DRIVER WILL BE DISQUALIFIED FROM THAT RACE.
  3. Seat belt and shoulder harness MUST be worn.
  4. HAIL SCREEN MAY BE PLACED IN THE WINDOW AREA IN FRONT OF THE DRIVER. 
  5. CAR WILL BE DISQUALIFIED IF ANY DOOR OR HOOD COMES OPEN DURING RACE.
  6. Drivers MUST be present at the drivers meeting held at 7 p.m.  Roll call will be held
  7. When call goes out to be in place, drivers have two minutes to be in place or be disqualified for that race.
  8. Any car catching on fire will be disqualified from the race.
  9. ALL CARS MUST STOP IMMEDIATELY WHEN RED FLAGGED.
  10. Drivers must stay in car until race is over, except in case of fire.
  11. Flagging will be in accordance with stock car racing, and will be explained at the drivers meeting.
  12. ALL CARS ARE SUBJECT TO BE REINSPECTED AT ANY TIME.
  13. ALL RULINGS BY RACE OFFICIAL WILL BE FINAL.
  14. DRIVERS MUST ENTER THE PIT AREA WITH THEIR CAR  AT INSPECTION AREA.
  15. FOR SAFETY REASONS, WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU WEAR A NECK ROLL.
